Coleman Primary School

Literacy Gold is a personalised intervention programme that has significantly enhanced the quality of phonics instruction and essential reading skills for children at Coleman Primary School.Through its structured, step-by-step approach, pupils make accelerated progress, with each stage building systematically on the last.

At Coleman Primary, we have implemented a consistent routine that integrates Literacy Gold effectively into our teaching. This routine reinforces learning, strengthens pupil confidence, and ensures sustained engagement. Ongoing assessments allow teachers to identify individual strengths and areas for improvement, enabling tailored support for each learner.

Individual pupil stories

Learner A began her reading journey with notable challenges in decoding and fluency, which hindered her engagement with texts.

Over the course of this academic year, she has made remarkable progress. Her reading age increased from 8 years 6 months to 11 years 7 months—an impressive gain of 37 months in just 6 months.

Learner B, a Year 4 pupil, began with a reading age of 7 years 4 months. After six months of intervention, his reading age rose to 10 years 2 months—an increase of nearly three years.

In addition, our use of Spelling Tutor has made a significant impact on his spelling progress, with his spelling age improving from 6 years 3 months to 8 years 1 month over the same period.

These outcomes highlight the effectiveness of Literacy Gold and associated tools like Spelling Tutor in transforming pupils' literacy development, particularly for those with additional learning needs or language barriers.
