Malmesbury Park Primary School

Our school have been using Literacy Gold for around 5 years. The children that have accessed Literacy Gold and continue to access it make significant progress with their reading. The children enjoy their time on the programme and, once they begin to work through the different levels, they get excited at being rewarded with a certificate for all their hard work.

We started Literacy Gold with a small number of students and this has gone from strength to strength – we currently have 135 children accessing Literacy Gold daily across the school from year 2 to year 6.

We have so many success stories to share but I can say that Literacy Gold is an invaluable tool and it’s making a huge difference to our children and their reading.

Individual pupil stories

Backgrond

Child A joined Malmesbury Park Primary School in Y5 Spring term (January 2024). She joined from a local school as her younger sibling attends the school. She is currently on the SEN register. She is currently waiting for an assessment for a Neurodevelopmental need. She has been under Speech and Language and has targeted interventions with a year-based TA. She is on the Pupil Premium register.

Starting Point

  • It was noticed quite quickly that she had a barrier up with some of her learning especially reading.
  • She was behind her peers in reading.
  • Teacher raised their concerns regarding her reading and fluency. The issue was discussed with parents and it was agreed that they were happy for her to go on to Literacy Gold (Reading Unlocked).
Outcome

Child A has made significant progress since using Reading Unlocked programme. Her understanding of what she is reading has improved greatly and through using Reading Unlocked it hasn’t only built up their independence but most importantly their confidence in reading – which has been wonderful to see.
